As parents, we are delighted to watch our children grow on a daily basis. They provide us with countless hours of entertainment and never fail to make us proud. However, along with this tremendous sense of fulfillment, we must also deal with the tough issues of parenting. In our case, the toughest issue is our child’s bedwetting problem.
Before we developed the PeeJ’s™ solution, we tried a number of bed wetting alarms that did not meet our wish to have our child achieve a sense of independence while tackling the bed wetting problem. For a few months, we took the “lazy” approach by putting our child in disposable pull-ups or night time underwear. During this time, our child always commented that he knew he had a “diaper on” and would not have to worry about “going potty” during the night. Even though we enjoyed uninterrupted sleep, we knew that disposable, diaper-like products were not the proper solution for bedwetting. Additionally, we were spending a lot of our hard-earned money on these expensive products and contributing to overtaxing our landfills by throwing these products in the garbage.
In an effort to address the bedwetting in a more effective manner, we consulted with our pediatrician. This consultation proved invaluable. Like many other doctors who are involved with children’s issues, our pediatrician believes that a bedwetting child is capable of understanding the problem and is able to work at visiting the bathroom during the night. Furthermore, our pediatrician opposes products like pull-ups that do not promote independence. Instead, our pediatrician told us to remove the “security blanket” (stop using pull-ups!) and prepare for a long, frustrating process where our child would sleep with no protection.
Armed with this knowledge, we began putting our child to bed in regular pajamas. To say the least, frustration and misery began to rule our lives! On a nightly basis, we found ourselves stripping our child’s pajamas, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, bed pads, stuffed animals, and any other item that entered the wetting path. More... |
